All good things come to an end – and as of April 11th 2017, we say Goodbye, Adios, Hasta la Vista, Au revoir to Windows Vista operating system, as its extended support expires and Microsoft will no longer be providing automatic fixes, updates, or online technical assistance including any security updates.
‘Every Windows product has a lifecycle. The lifecycle begins when a product is released and ends when it’s no longer supported.’ – Microsoft.
If you are still using Windows Vista, we would strongly advise you to upgrade your software to a more recent Windows version, prior to the end of support date on 11th April. However, if you do have to continue using Windows Vista, make sure you have the latest available update or service pack, in this case – Service Pack 2, installed before the extended support expires.
It is important to note that you will no longer receive support from Microsoft which would help protect your computer and data from cyber threats, including viruses and malicious software which could encrypt or steal your personal information.
By using out of date operating systems, you become an easy target for cyber criminals who are able to exploit the systems vulnerabilities once Microsoft stops supporting them.
End of support for other Windows operating systems:
- Windows XP – April 8th 2014
- Windows Vista – April 11th 2017
- Windows 7 – January 14th 2020
- Windows 8 – January 10th 2023
- Windows 10 – October 12th 2025
