Cyber-security team Cisco Talos reports today that recently installed and updated versions of CCleaner (a computer performance optimization tool used to remove temporary internet files and repair registry errors) was infected with malware.
With over 2 billion worldwide downloads, it’s important that you ensure that your computer is not affected by this CCleaner breach.
The malware came with an official app, hosted on an official server. Everyone who installed or updated CCleaner between August 15 and now should update to the newest version and run an anti-malware scan.
While the malware doesn’t do much damage on its own, it opens a door for hackers to remotely install other malware on your computer.
